The Berklee College seal. Its latin motto, "Esse Quam videri" means "To be, rather than to seem".

Berklee College of Music is a college of music in Boston, Massachusetts, and the largest independent college of contemporary music in the world. It teaches a range of styles including rock, jazz, hip-hop, bluegrass and reggae. Future Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy, Derek SherinianJohn Petrucci and John Myung attended Berklee College in 1984, and Mike Mangini taught as an Associate Professor of Percussion from 2002 until joining Dream Theater in 2010. To date, 100 Berklee alumni have received 231 Grammy Awards.
