Lost Not Forgotten is the third track on Dream Theater's eleventh album, A Dramatic Turn of Events, and the first of many songs on the album to eclipse the ten minute mark. Sprawlingly technical, Lost Not Forgotten is a relatively dark metal song by the standards of its album, and its intro features an extended unison that fans have nicknamed the "tickle section."
The lyrics are about an ancient Persian army.
The name of this song was used to name the band's reissue series of the YtseJam Records catalog, being named the Lost Not Forgotten Archives.
John Petrucci recorded this song using a 6-string guitar tuned 1 whole step down (D-G-C-F-A-D). It was the last song to use this tuning until At Wit's End on Distance Over Time.
